Sissification is a process of psychological and aesthetic transformation in which a subject adopts markers of femininity through ritual, dress, and power exchange. Closely related to [[Feminization]] and frequently situated within [[BDSM]] practice, it is studied here as both subcultural vocabulary and lived identity.
Historical Origins

Early documentary traces of the archetype appear in private sketchbooks and correspondence circulating among continental salons in the late nineteenth century. These materials—later collected in the Sterling Archive—record silhouettes, costume notes, and coded language that anticipate modern usage of the term.
Rather than a single origin point, the historical record shows overlapping currents: medical discourse, popular caricature, and intimate correspondence. Each strand contributed vocabulary that would later consolidate into the encyclopedia's working definition.
